What to Expect

Lesson Structure

Though some material changes between voice and piano and content varies depending on age and experience, the basic lesson structure is the same.

Hand Holding Microphone

Warm up and scales

This is where we work on techniques through scales and exercises. Including posture, fingering, breath, singing and playing quick or slow and other skills to apply to our songs.

Music Theory/ Sight Singing or Reading/ Aural Skills

Then we learn new musical terms, styles, rhythms, and notes. We also will practice sight reading or singing, and aural (listening) skills.

Old Song Review

Next we will work on our songs; polishing, shaping and practicing a large variety of songs from lesson books and personal selection. This is where we apply all the skills aquired from the warm up, and music theory.

New Song introduction

Lastly, we get to pick and learn new songs for the next lesson.

Note for Voice Students

Sheet Music

Accompaniment

Although you will have access to my music library and I can copy music for you, there will be some music that you might need to purchase. Make sure to get the correct version/key as instructed to match your voice.

I will often play the accompaniment to your songs or sometimes use an accompaniment track. If the song is too difficult for me to play or unavailable online, you will need to purchase a track or pay an accompanist to record it for you.
